Cove SECURE is a specialized residential treatment program in Torrance, Pennsylvania, that is dedicated to the rehabilitation of justice-involved youth. The goal with our program is to help boys and young men find a pathway to positive and lasting change

Focused Residential Programming in Torrance, Pennsylvania

Cove SECURE offers residential rehabilitation programming specifically for young males ages 12-20 who have been adjudicated for serious offenses, such as arson, theft, burglary, firearm possession, and similar crimes. The program offers care in a structured, safe, and therapeutic environment that is designed to foster accountability and encourage behavioral growth.

At our Torrance, Pennsylvania, residential rehabilitation facility, we believe that every young person has the potential for a positive future. Our mission is to guide youths toward positive change by providing comprehensive therapy and offering consistent support that helps them build a solid foundation for living a law-abiding life.

Comprehensive Therapeutic Curriculum

At the heart of our residential program in Torrance, Pennsylvania, is a robust curriculum that is designed to address the root causes of delinquent behavior. We use evidence-based strategies to ensure that residents gain the skills necessary for successful reintegration into their communities.

The curriculum focuses on four core areas:

Criminal and addictive thinking: This part of the curriculum provides guidance on identifying and correcting distorted thought patterns that often contribute to criminal behaviors and substance abuse. By reshaping how they think and process situations, residents can learn how to change how they act.

Trauma and PTSD: Many justice-involved youths have histories of trauma. Our curriculum helps residents gain an understanding of how traumatic experiences impact the brain, body, and emotions.

Grief and loss: The curriculum offers targeted education and support around the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses to loss, which can help residents process difficult life events in a healthy way.

Anger control: The curriculum is designed to help residents learn the early triggers of anger, understand their personal cycle of escalation, and develop strategies that can interrupt maladaptive responses to anger before they lead to aggression.

Phases of Care in Our Residential Rehab Center

The treatment model we use in our residential rehab program in Torrance, Pennsylvania, is structured into distinct phases. This step-by-step progression allows residents to master specific skills before moving forward, which can lead to true behavioral change.

Red Phase: Assessment and Evaluation

Residents begin the program in the red phase, which lasts for approximately two weeks while the residents acclimate to the facility. The primary goal in the red phase is for residents to demonstrate an attempt at positive behavior and display adherence to program rules.

During this phase, residents will:

  • Complete necessary psychiatric, nursing, and psychological evaluations
  • Learn the rules and expectations of the program
  • Begin identifying their specific thinking errors
  • Adjust to the daily routine
  • Begin building rapport with staff

Blue Phase: Accountability and Responsibility

In the blue phase, the focus shifts to accepting responsibility for the actions that led the youth to be placed in our residential rehab program. This is a critical period when self-reflection and honesty are highly encouraged.

During the blue phase, residents will:

  • Engage in conversations on topics such as boundaries, the law, consent, and the ABCs of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT)
  • Uncover and discuss maintenance behaviors that sustain negative habits
  • Work intensively on criminal addictive thinking and the Good Lives Model (GLM)
  • Demonstrate an ability to take voluntary timeouts and comply with staff-directed timeouts
  • Begin family therapy sessions to rebuild support systems

Yellow Phase: Offense Cycle and Disclosure

The yellow phase is when deep therapeutic work that addresses triggers and patterns takes place. Residents learn to identify the specific cycle that leads to their offenses.

During the yellow phase, residents will:

  • Identify patterns that arise in response to specific triggers
  • Take timeouts proactively without needing staff direction
  • Follow staff direction immediately and without complaint
  • Receive positive feedback from staff daily, demonstrating that they have begun the transition to a positive role model within the residential program

Green Phase: Victim and Empathy

The final phase of care focuses on empathy and planning for the future. Residents work to understand the profound impact their behavior has had on their victims.

During the green phase, residents will:

  • Spend a significant amount of time learning about and gaining a true understanding of the consequences their actions have had on others
  • Learn advanced social skills that are necessary for community living
  • Identify postdischarge support options
  • Explore comprehensive aftercare planning and services

Before residents discharge, they are required to engage in a relapse prevention module. This involves learning about and identifying intervention techniques residents can use to prevent the cycle of reoffending after they leave our Torrance residential rehab program.
